Community radio has a major role to play in the recovery program in Aceh Province of N. Sumatra following the 2004 tsunami.

This is one of the findings of the 2008 Aceh Community Research project conducted under the auspices of HCR in partnership with Radio Djati and the Ar-Raniry Institute for Islamic Studies. The project report was launched on May 24 in Banda Aceh.

The research consisted of three main components: a 1000-sample random survey of Banda Aceh, a series of focus group discussions among vulnerable people in Aceh Besar, and a series of key informant interviews with various government officials.
